The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), in cooperation with the City of Tillamook and Tillamook County,
proposes to improve the design and traffic performance of US 101 and OR 6 in downtown Tillamook and across Hoquarten Slough.
OR 6 follows the 1st and 3rd street couplet and US 101
follows Main and Pacific avenues in downtown Tillamook. These narrow streets were not designed to safely carry
the large volume of traffic – particularly truck traffic – that is using these streets today.
The proposed project would extend the US 101
couplet to the Hoquarten Slough by extending Pacific Avenue north
of 1st Street and replace the existing bridge with a new four lane bridge. The new bridge would be up to 5 feet higher than the
existing bridge. The proposed project would also widen the travel lanes on Main and Pacific Avenues
from 1st Street to 4th Street by narrowing the sidewalks.
ODOT is now preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA). This is a federally-required report that will document the
effects of the Build and No-Build (do nothing) alternatives to the transportation system, as well as to the natural
and community environment.
When completed, the Environmental Assessment will be available for public comment before a preferred alternative is
identified. Construction of this project has been funded as
part of the State of Oregon’s Jobs and Transportation Act of 2009.
